Fill in the electronic application form at visa.kdmid.ru, then submit your passport, printed application, photo and invitation at a Russian consulate or visa center. Availability of visa centers in the US has been limited in recent years – check which locations are currently accepting applications before you plan your submission (as of recent reports, New York has been the main option).

- Biometrics: at all four Moscow airports, foreign arrivals give a photo and fingerprints. It’s quick and routine.
- Registration: your hotel registers your stay automatically within one working day – nothing for you to do. In a private apartment, your host must register you within 7 working days.
- Money: US-issued Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay do not work in Russia. Bring cash (USD or EUR to exchange) or open a local MIR card – your passport is enough, sometimes right at the airport. Hotels can be prepaid from abroad via platforms like Ostrovok or Trip.com.
