Russia Visa from Dubai & the UAE 2026: Who Needs One?

Flying to Russia from Dubai is one of the easiest international routes there is: 5 to 5.5 hours nonstop, several airlines daily – and if you hold a UAE passport, no visa at all. If you live in the UAE but carry another passport, your rule depends on that passport. Here’s the full breakdown for 2026.

UAE citizens: no visa needed – 90 days

Emirati passport holders enter Russia visa-free for up to 90 days. No application, no fee, no invitation – book flights and go. The same applies to citizens of Qatar and, since May 2026, Saudi Arabia. This makes the Gulf one of the least-regulated departure points for Russia travel anywhere in the world.

One step we strongly recommend: visa-free travellers are asked to pre-register electronically at least 72 hours before arrival via the “Gosuslugi ruID” app (this does not apply to visa or e-visa holders). The scheme runs at least through 2027; whether it is strictly mandatory has been described differently by different Russian authorities – so treat it as required and register in the app before you fly. We help all our guests with this step.

UAE residents with other passports: check your nationality

Your UAE residence visa does not affect Russian entry rules – only your passport counts. Three groups:

Flights: Dubai is Russia’s front door

  • Dubai–Moscow nonstop, 5–5.5 hours: Emirates (to Domodedovo), flydubai (to Vnukovo) and Aeroflot (to Sheremetyevo) all fly the route – multiple departures every day.
  • From elsewhere in the Gulf: Qatar Airways flies Doha–Moscow daily, and Saudia has flown Riyadh–Moscow nonstop since October 2025. Etihad, Oman Air, Gulf Air and Air Arabia also serve Russia.
  • St Petersburg and other cities are an easy domestic connection from Moscow – or ask us to build the routing into your tour.

Good to know before you fly

  • Cards: internationally issued Visa/Mastercard and Apple/Google Pay do not work in Russia. Bring cash to exchange (USD or AED-converted) or open a local MIR card on arrival – a passport is enough. Hotels can be prepaid from abroad via Ostrovok or Trip.com.
  • Arrival biometrics: Moscow’s four airports photograph and fingerprint all foreign arrivals (children under 6 exempt) – a quick, routine step.
  • Registration: hotels report your stay automatically within one working day; private hosts must register you within 7 working days.
  • Insurance: medical insurance is mandatory for e-visa and classic-visa holders and sensible for everyone.
90 days visa-free and a 5-hour flight – what’s stopping you?

Moscow city breaks, St Petersburg palaces, the Trans-Siberian: our English-guided tours include hotels, transfers and halal dining options on request. Perfect timing: escape the Gulf summer for a mild Russian one.
